The picture in my header today is my childhood home, Cowley, Wyoming. When I was growing up the population was about 350 not counting the farmers outside the city limits. I could run free, play down by the wash, swim in the canal, roller skate all over town, and walk in any direction for miles without my parents worrying about me much. Times have changed a little but not a whole lot in Cowley with one exception. There has been controversy from the locals about the changes in town, mainly the store fronts. I know there is nostalgia about the way it used to look but I love the new look. It means my town is not dying and that there is progress in so many ways. When I lived at home we had dirt streets (mud when it rained), no sidewalks and most of the store fronts were just that.....fronts with no business in them. Now the town has new subdivisions, new streets, huge sidewalks, 2 new schools, a city park and new covered walks in front of the stores. I have pictures to remember what it used to look like and that's good enough for me. Now you can walk to get your mail without getting rained on, and the old unsightly areas are covered up. The streets now have pretty lights, trees growing all along the highway and yet it still retains the small town feel which it is. I am coming to see you this summer Cowley. I love you and you bring me joy.

I had no idea these changes were going on! When we were there last summer they just had the construction going on Main St. I think I may side with the locals. I don't know how I feel about all those old buildings getting a face lift. I hope they keep the integrity of the buildings and not try and make them look brand new. Those buildings are what gives that town character!
That is awesome...I hope when you go back you will post some more photos. Last time I went back to my old stomping grounds, it was scary and crime ridden, houses with bars on the windows and a lot of front yards had plastic flowers and green painted concrete for lawns. 40 years earlier, it was heaven on earth !!!
