I have been thinking of "sons" a lot this month. My part in a Relief Society play this Wednesday is about the strippling warriors so obviously I have been thinking of my son Shon. While he was growing up I wanted him to be able to do anything.... whether it was man's work or even what is considered women's work. He always had to do two household chores per day, he took home-ec and learned to sew, I taught him to iron which was a great thing for him to know on his mission, He learned to cook...(yes I cooked for 17 years and then turned it over to his father) and to do cross-stitch just for the experience. Wayne also taught him to do many things. He gave Shon electronics kits, chemistry sets, building kits etc. and now as a man he can do about anything. If he doesn't know how to do something, he will find out how. He can fix his car, do carpentry, rewire a lamp, cook, iron, fish, hunt, camp, and is a very good teacher and scout leader. Yes, he turned out very well and I miss him. I think his wife appreciates his many abilities too although I don't think he does 2 chores a day any longer....but maybe. This is a cross-stitch he did for me. Yes, real men cook and eat quiche and they do needlework and then make a frame for it. Arrrr Arrrr Arrrr

I'm going to do the same with Emerson! I want him to be able to sew so that he can do his own mending! Or like Matt, who was able to sew his own GI Joe clothes! I think it's good to have a well rounded man!
